We watch, astonished, a rapid change without fully understanding its direction or intensity.<\/p>\n The fashion system is devastated. Major Italian brands are owned by foreign holdings. The passing of the last great couturiers, Armani<\/strong> and Valentino<\/strong>, has made the dissolution of Made in Italy<\/strong> evident. Craftsmanship, once an Italian excellence, has been depleted by reckless globalist policies. The rupture of the centuries-old apprenticeship cycle has caused irreversible damage.<\/p>\n Beyond geopolitical factors, radical changes in desires and in the way of life of Generation Z<\/strong> are also adding up.<\/p>\n When, before Italy was deliberately shaken, we traveled abroad, we were admired. Being Italian meant style, taste, an industrial system, and great craftsmanship. It meant being the world\u2019s fourth-largest power. Little or nothing remains of that world, except\u2014for those who lived it\u2014the awareness of an unrepeatable era, nonetheless one of peace and confidence in the future.<\/p>\n (Ansuini, 18 kt yellow gold bracelet, 1960s)<\/span><\/p>\n In jewelry we witness, stunned, a \u201cperfect storm.\u201d The price of gold has reached prohibitive levels. In a jewel, the cost of the metal has become so high as to exclude most of the population from purchasing. A platinum jewel can even be more convenient than a gold one. The value of diamonds\u2014due to lab-grown diamonds<\/strong>, international sanctions, new lifestyles, and other factors\u2014has fallen by about 30%<\/strong> in the past year alone. At international auctions, high-quality artisanal jewelry is consolidating its position. Art Deco and signed jewelry are sought after. Storytelling<\/em> makes a jewel desirable and differentiates it from countless other offerings.<\/p>\n Art has changed its parameters, but not jewelry, which has largely remained stuck in outdated forms. Timid signals in international markets point to jewelry with a new aesthetic. The brilliance of the artist\u2019s work merges with that of nature. In the 19th<\/strong> and 20th<\/strong> centuries, platinum<\/strong> was used for the most important works and had great value. In the second half of the 20th century<\/strong>, the fashion system<\/em> became industrialized and gold was used for jewelry production.
