In Berlin lies the world temple of techno music. To get in, people queue for hours. Once at the door, even if you think you have the right dress code, it can happen that the bouncer turns you away. Some time ago, even Elon Musk waited in line, but in the end he was unable to get in. He said he had left of his own accord and later went on to buy a nightclub in the city.

We are talking about the iconic Berghain club, a symbol of rave culture and the global electronic music scene, famous for its parties and libertarian approach, where at certain times people can stay for two or even three days. It is there, at the Halle am Berghain in Berlin, in this absolutely alternative and symbolic space, that Pierre Huyghe (Paris, 1962) is exhibiting his works from January 23 to March 8.

After graduating from the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and a past marked by anarchic punk influences, Pierre devoted himself to art using photography, video, installations, and works on paper and wood. His works have also been presented in traditional venues such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Castello di Rivoli, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville in Paris, and the Tate Modern Gallery in London.
A multifaceted artist, he has won the special “Venice Biennale” prize and the “Hugo Boss” Prize. His work is conceptually detached from the existence of objects and moves and experiments through time and space. He criticizes the massification of society and the repression of individualism. His art represents “an escape from the single plane of reality in which we are trapped and by which we are limited.”

From January 21 to April 12, works by Saodat Ismailova will be exhibited at the Swiss Institute in New York. The Uzbek artist (Tashkent, 1981) in 2002 was among the creatives of Italian excellence at Fabrica, the research and documentation center. The villa, near Treviso, founded by Luciano Benetton and Oliviero Toscani, hosted rotating groups of creatives from all over the world from 1994 until its closure in 2024. In this large intellectual atelier, projects based on cultural contamination were developed, building bridges between art, culture, and industry.

Ismailova later studied at the Sundance Institute founded by Robert Redford, which supports the work of independent filmmakers and funds aspiring professionals, and she subsequently became active in the production of short films and documentaries. She is dedicated to the development of emerging cinema in Central Asia and participated in the Venice Biennale with her first video installation. Since 2017 she has begun focusing on contemporary art, taking part in solo and group exhibitions. In 2022 she participated in the 59th Venice Biennale with the video installation “Chillahona.” Her works are held in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Centre Pompidou. In her works, the artist creates an almost spiritual space beyond image and soundtrack.
In London, at the Business Design Centre, the London Art Fair from January 21 to 25 presents, in more than 100 exhibition stands, works mainly of modern and contemporary British art. As part of the fair, there is a collective group of eight Ukrainian artists who fled to the United Kingdom because of the war.
In Singapore, the ART SG fair presents, from January 23 to 25, artists from the Southeast Asian region. The Singapore art scene is supported by non-profit organizations that aim to enhance artistic dialogue between Southeast Asia and the rest of the world.
With the new year, international auctions are slowly resuming their activity.
On January 25 in Singapore, in conjunction with the ART SG fair, Christie’s auction house will hold the “Modern and Contemporary Art” sale.
